We Asked Our Community…

We recently asked the Coffee and Bible Time community how they spend their quiet time—and we loved the variety! Everyone’s routine looked a little different, but each one reflected a real desire to grow closer to God.

We noticed some fun themes and divided the responses into creative groups:

The Early Risers

Bible + coffee before the rest of the house wakes up.

“I get up in the morning before my kids do (mom of 7 haha!) and begin my day in prayer, reading the Word, and enjoying the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee.”

Nicole L.

“Every morning I have a coffee date with Jesus. I pray and study a section of my Bible.”

Michelle K.

The Note Takers

Journaling through Scripture, using highlighters, sticky notes, and color-coded pens.

“I recently started writing out the New Testament. I have a journal and some pens, and I write down a chapter a day in the NIV translation.”

Anonymous

“I write to myself from God’s perspective. I don’t think about what I am going to say I just start and whatever pops up in my head I write down. I usually start with “dear Lazelle…” and take it from there. Some really interesting stuff has popped up!”

“Sometimes I write poems or Psalms based on what I’ve studied lately and read them to God.”

Starting with a worship song to settle their hearts and give praise to God.

I really try to not just jump straight to study and spend some time first meditating on Scripture, I like to meditate thru the Psalms often and I’ll use what I’m reading to pray through for myself or family and friends. I also love to journal some prayers or make a list of what is on my heart to pray for. Then I study 🙂

After I have my time in the Word I will jump on my walking pad and go thru my scripture memory and read out of a book I’m going thru for about 10-20 mins.”

Judy A.

“I will pray and sing worship (spontaneously) as the Spirit inspires me during my Bible reading/study.”

The Wind-Downers

Ending the day with prayer and quiet reading before bed

I open my blinds and look out at nature while I journal. I read my bible, use my bible app, and talk to the Lord. I have ADD so writing down my thoughts slows my brain down to really focus on Jesus. I usually grab a nice cup of hot tea or hot water with lemon, occasionally acup of coffee and reflect on the day. I would be lying if i say i do this daily, I plan on daily but occasionally days get skipped depending on life. I wish I didnt but it does happen.

Dawn B.

“I have a 7 month old baby. When I put him to sleep in the evenings I pull out my book light and Bible and study for the remaining hours before bed while my husband works at night.”

Ashley T.

The Deep Divers

Using study guides, commentaries, or our EASY Method to dig into context and application.

Jordan C.

The Movers

Taking walks while listening to the Bible or praying aloud.

“I actively choose to walk to university and to spend those 40 minutes either listening to the Bible or praying.
I sometimes do Bible reading dates with Jesus in a coffee shop.”

E. A.

“Depending on the day, mine will look different… and there is certainly almost never true quiet in a house full of littles!

Prayer. All day, every day!

I like to go on prayer walks in the morning. Walking through my neighborhood and praying for those around me based on what I observe and also my own needs.

I read and study Scripture every day. If I have a rare occasion of uninterrupted time afterward, I will scripture journal using the SOAP method and even doodle or design the page with stickers and/or crayons!

Every day , multiple times a day, I practice Contemplative prayer!! This is my only consistency day to day. Descending into my heart space to commune with the Triune God. Sometimes all I need to do is repeat one word, like “grace” or “God” or “love” while focusing on my breath or something in nature… or a lit candle. This is the spiritual discipline of practicing the presence of God.”

Haley L.

“I study my Bible every morning after I make breakfast and take a walk! I love spending time in the morning.”

Maddie W.

The Nature Gazers

Meeting with God in creation simply soaking in His beauty.

“I like to go outside and find something, i.e. a blade of grass a flower. Then bring it back inside and put it into my journal, and write down how it makes me feel about God.”

“I have this tiny room in the one corner of our house. It overlooks an enormous wheat field. On the field right in the middle is one single gigantic tree. Because it’s winter here in South Africa right now everything is green.

So it literally looks like a “windows background” with lush green fields, bright blue skies and that one tree. I wrap myself in a warm blanket, light some candles, open all the curtains to yake in the view and then begin to thank God for His creation. Then I do praise and worship and then bible reading and journaling!

It was so encouraging to see how different each routine is—and yet how God uses all of them.

Whether you have 5 minutes or an hour, whether you’re a morning person or night owl, God is waiting to spend time with you right where you are.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. He’ll meet you there.
